The Dog and The Elephant

I recently ran across a story of The Dog and The Elephant that I want to share in this post.  It’s very short, and somewhat humorous, yet it makes a great point.  It continues along the same thoughts as the previous post concerning waiting, and if you haven’t read it, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to do so.

An elephant and a dog became pregnant at the same time.

Three months later the dog gave birth to six puppies.  Six months later the dog was pregnant again, and nine months later gave birth to another dozen puppies.  The pattern continued.

On the eighteenth month the dog approached the elephant asking, “Are you sure that you are pregnant?  In the beginning, we became pregnant on the same date.  Since then I have given birth three times to a dozen puppies and they have now grown to become big dogs, yet you say you are still pregnant.  What’s going on?”

The elephant replied, “There is something I want you to understand.  What I am carrying is not a puppy, but an elephant.  I only give birth to one, in two years.  When my baby hits the ground, the earth feels it.  When my baby crosses the road, human beings stop and watch in awe.  What I’m carrying draws attention.  What I’m carrying is great and mighty.”

Funny, but true.

Perhaps you’ve felt something was about to happen several days ago, or even months, or maybe years.  Maybe you’ve been praying for something, or someone, and nothing seems to be changing.

Don’t despair.  Don’t lose hope.  The dreams God has place inside of you are great and may be taking extra time to develop, but do not give up.

You have unbelievable potential within you that you do not even realize, and though your vision tarries, wait for it, for it will certainly come at the appointed time.  (Habakkuk 2:3)

Your time is coming!

Your time is coming, and when it hits the earth, people are going to know and be amazed.

Still believing!
